DESIGNATION - ACCESS TOWERS AND LADDERS CHAMBERS

DESIGNATION

“Professional designation” means a title or status conferred by a professional body in recognition of a person’s expertise and/or right to practice in an occupational field. Registration against a designation is valid for 3 years, after which the practitioner has to apply for re-registration.

The IWH Professional Body recognizes the following skills programmes within the TOWERS/ALUMINIUM SCAFFOLD industry:

ALUMINUM SCAFFOLDING ERECTOR & DISMANTLER

The person responsible for the erecting and dismantling of aluminium scaffolding has to be able to describe the components of prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding. He/she will be able to assemble and dismantle prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding safely and efficiently at a work site. He/she will also be able to move the prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding when necessary and to understand that safety must be an overriding concern for his/her own and others safety for the duration of the erection, dismantling and moving phases

 

CRITERIA FOR OBTAINING THE PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

To be recognized with the IWH Prof Body as an Aluminium Scaffolding Erector & Dismantler the licensee must comply with the following minimum requirements:

Academic Component

Must have completed the following NQF registered unit standard:

  • Unit Standard 243275: Erect and dismantle prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding (Lev 1; 4 credits)
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must complete the IWH BP approved Aluminium Scaffolding Erector and Dismantler Professional Competency Assessment. (This assessment can also be used as an RPL assessment against the designation).
  • Must be in possession of a current, valid medical certificate.
  • Members are required to provide proof to the IWH Prof Body of their CPD activities.
  • Members are required to accumulate 5 CPD points in three years by completing a range of recognized activities such as:

Compulsory CPD Points:= 3 CPD points

  • IWH PB registered board re-assessment

Choose from any of the below (min 5 CPD points)

  • Membership with an association/ body
  • Subscription to industry related trade magazine
  • Attendance of Work at Height conferences
  • Committee member of an association / body nationally or internationally
  • Registered with the IWH Professional Body as a constituent assessor / moderator
  • Author of book / published article relating to work at height
  • IWH PB registered CPD workshops relevant to designation
  • Re-fresher training programme on area of specialisation
  • Attendance of OHS CPD workshops or training programmes (pre-approved by IWH PB)

(Training and assessment must be conducted by a SETA ETQA accredited and IWH Professional Body recognized training provider)

Practical/Workplace Experience

Must have completed minimum 40 hours of relevant erecting and dismantling aluminium scaffolding workplace experience.

Board Examination/Competency Assessment

CRITERIA FOR RETAINING THE IWH PB PERMIT TO OPERATE

To ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the IWH PB license to operate the practitioner must comply with the following minimum requirements:

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

ALUMINUM SCAFFOLDING ERECTOR & DISMANTLER SUPERVISOR

The person responsible for the supervision of erecting and dismantling of aluminium scaffolding has to be able to integrate knowledge and understanding of prefabricated aluminium scaffolding and related applications with skills for monitoring, organizing, inspecting and controlling a range of activities associated with the erection, moving and dismantling of prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding. 

This person’s competencies extend beyond just the completion of tasks and contribute towards the development of effective supervisory skills to ensure all work is carried out in accordance with legislation and regulations pertaining to prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding and working at height.

CRITERIA FOR OBTAINING THE PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION

To be recognized with the IWH Prof Body as an Aluminium Scaffolding Erector & Dismantler Supervisor the permit holder must comply with the following minimum requirements:

Academic Component

Must have completed the following NQF registered unit standard:

  • Unit Standard 243275: Erect and dismantle prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding (Lev 1; 4 credits)
  • Unit Standard 243274: Monitor and control the use of prefabricated aluminium alloy scaffolding (Lev 4; 8 credits)
  • Minimum 18 years of age

Board Examination/Competency Assessment

  • Must successfully complete the IWH BP approved Aluminium Scaffolding Erector and Dismantler Supervisor Professional Competency Assessment. (This assessment can also be used as an RPL assessment against the designation)
  • Must be in possession of a current, valid medical certificate.

Practical/Workplace Experience

Must have completed a minimum 100 hours of relevant erecting and dismantling aluminium scaffolding supervisory workplace experience or have erected 15 – 20 scaffold structures per week.
